Item Description

Created in Morocco during the mid-20th century, this charming vintage rug features in abstract, informal composition comprised of polychromatic stacked lozenges and geometric figures embellished with triangular amulets. These powerful symbolic devices combine two important symbols used for protection against the evil eye. Linear outlines feature bold kohl black details flanked by crisp white accents. Graphic white motifs, kohl black stripes and delicate lavender figures dot the burnt orange background. Zigzagging running water symbols and angular glyphs punctuate the monochromatic field at random intervals. Subtle ladyfinger flanges extend into the obscure walnut brown edges emphasizing the high level of contrast created by the opposing color scheme.
