Dagestan Kilim, circa 1930, hand-knotted in the Caucasus.

Dagestan, meaning "land of mountains" in the Turkic languages, contains a population consisting of many nationalities. These kilims were produced by villagers and tribal nomads in the Caucasus--the current countries of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia and Dagestan. The pieces typically have clear coloring and bold patterns.

Reflecting bold geometric motifs this rug has a pleasing color palette of medium and dark blues, brick, soft green and taupe.
