A very rare and unusual 1950s side table; a trompe l'oeil stack of antique books. The design is whimsical, practical and eye catcher. It fits with any design scheme from antique, English cottage chic to mid-century modern. The stack of antique books rests on small square feet and measures 19.5 x 19.75 x 16.25 inches. The books are leather bound.
And it is not only a table; the upper book lifts up and reveals a storage area and another book's bind conceals a drawer. The top book cover has some wear to leather, otherwise, it is in very good condition. The design actually reminds one of the tongue in cheek design aesthetic of the Italian designer, Piero Fornasetti.
