Bauhaus Design Era Swiss Adjustable Embru Table for sale
Item ID: 372021
Item Description
This is a rare edition of a Swiss Bauhaus era table. It is probably one of the most interesting and multi-functional tables designed during this time. This edition is quite rare as it is a 30s edition. The table is completely adjustable: the top solid wood platter rotates and tilts. The height is also adjustable. The piece was designed in 1936 and produced by Embru Werke, the producer of Marcel Breuer 's aluminum furniture.
Via a simple system of bakelite knobs and levers, the table adjusts to 40 inches high from the low table height of 26 inches and the upper surface even rotates on the 'X' axis. The larger platter is 20 x 16.5 inches and the smaller 10.5 x 10.5 inches.
This is the ultimate flexible table: the upper surface is perfect to use as a small desk, a music stand, to hold a book while reading or to have breakfast in bed. A nifty feature and typical example of ingenious, multifunctional Swiss design is that the upper surface can also be removed (unclicked) to use as a serving tray. Clever design at its best!
It is in very good condition with light patina to metal. The table was sold at Wohnbedarf, the initial importers of Bauhaus inspired design to Switzerland and the sponsors of the competition that resulted in Breuer's Aluminum chairs.
