Norman Mercer studied at Parsons School of Design. His surfaces are as smooth as glass on each piece, but basically the sculptures are all about color. Each sculpture is like a three-dimensional painting that reveals itself in different ways from different angles. They become exquisite decorative accents for sophisticated residences, where the art and architecture complement each other. Bears the 'From the estate of Norman Mercer decal.
MERCER--Norman J., of Manhattan and East Hampton, who was an international business man and renowned sculptor, died in his East Hampton home on Tuesday, November 20th, from cancer at the age of 91. He was born on July 17, 1916 in New York City. Mr. Mercer's artistic calling appeared after his retirement at the age of 62. He is known for his cast acrylic sculptures of color and geometric shapes using the reflection and refraction of light.
We have aquired a number of his small intimate studies in lucite.
