Item Description

A superb antique carved wood Pieta: a mournful Mary holding Jesus in her arms. The sculpture is a fine piece of 19th century art featuring exquisite, expressive carving with beautiful attention to details. The sculpture is 21 inches tall. It only has traces of its original paint which give it a rough hewn almost folk art quality. However, it is even more poignant with the wood structure revealed. The sculpture is 19th century and most likely, German or Swiss in origin. It has the artist's initials carved at the back (see photo). It is in very good condition.
