Item Description
This green verdigris patinated bronze figurine by Estelle Goodman (American, 1930-2007) depicts a humorous gentleman in top hat, and dates from 1962. Measures 13.2 x 12.5 x 4.5 inches. Goodman was born in New York City and graduated from Barnard College. She was a member of Artist-Craftsmen of New York, the New Jersey Society of Painters and Sculptors, Yonkers Art Association, and Knickerbocker Artists. A partial list of exhibits from the height of her career in the 1960s includes: Kncikerbocker ('61-'64), Selected Artists Galleries ('62, '64), Allied Artist ('63-'65), Audubon Artists ('65), National Design Center in New York ('66), W&J Sloane Company Galleries ('66-'67). She is listed in Who Was Who in American Art (1973, 1999) and other reference books. She is known to have cast at the Modern Art Foundry in Astoria, New York, an important American foundry that cast works from many of the leading sculptors working in the mid-century period, including Miro, Archipenko, Noguchi, Lachaise and Lipchitz.
