Head - Altered Found Art for sale
Item ID: 397749
Item Description
James Metcalf is an important modernist artist whose work is included in many museums and important collections. Although he often used “found” objects as raw material, he manipulated and formed them beyond recognition. In this case, the found object is a ring sizing rod used as the spine.
Generally, he is grouped both with the Surrealists and the Abstract Expressionists. He has exhibited repeatedly in Paris, London, New York, Paris, Philadelphia, Spain, Germany, and Mexico in major galleries and juried exhibitions. His piece in the Hirshorn is frequently illustrated.
