A pair of rare Carron Foundry cast iron benches, mid 19th Century.
Described as the "Rococo" settee, the seat is pierced with arabesques and foliage, the serpentine shaped back cast with hoops beneath foliate cresting and on cabriole supports with foliate cast apron and ring turned back legs, 62 inches wide, 37 inches tall
The original signed drawing for this seat, numbered 34358 registered in the Public Records Office is inscribed - N I Carron Company, Carron Warehouse, 15 Upper Thames Street, London. Works at Carron Stirlingshire, Scotland.
Both the Carron and the Falkirk foundries were located on the Firth of Forth on the East Coast of Scotland but had warehousing and retailing premises close to each other in Upper Thames Street, London, to which the iron goods were transported by sea and up the River Thames
