The Wurtemberg Electro-Plate Company in Geislingen ,Germany, Known internationally today as ´WMF` from the initials of the company`s name Wurttembergische Metallwarenfabrik was founded in 1853 with 16 workers. By 1914, the worforce in all WMF`S factories in Germany, Poland and Austria . The origins of the WMF company were modest, and it is a lasting tribute to the vision of company `s founder Daniel Straub. First catalogues of the firm`s production appeared in 1856,1859. The silverplated wares produced were work- baskets, soup-bowls, ashtrays for cigars, egg- cups, candelabra, toilet-mirrors. The company was awarded a Prize Medal and its international success heralded a period of further expansion at the Geislingen factory. Shorty after the turn of the century, the German Emperor Wilhelm II had presented the Germanic Museun at Harvard University. In 1905 WMF acquiret the Orivit AG. An important Cologne company
