Early 20th Century
Most of the time tramp art boxes are fairly standard, but this box surpasses any examples I’ve ever seen. In excellent condition, this box has been professionally conserved. Truly a decorative piece, three spade shaped finials grace the top of each section of the box. Hand whittled wood appliqués decorate every side of the box which stands on top of a multi-tiered pyramidal base. A fantastic example of this intriguing art form. I use tramp art as a foil in modern spaces. They add just enough ornate decoration and warm wood tones to enliven the minimalist coolness of modern spaces.
