Item Description
This delightful box by Smokey Tunis (c1913-1999), the noted sculptor and so-called Beatnik furniture maker, dates from the 1950s or 1960s. It is unsigned and in very good condition with its original finish and nice patina. Measures 12.75 in (17.8 cm) wide, 7.25 in (18.4 cm) deep, and 7 in (17.8 cm) high. The piece is similar in form and color to the waste basket by Smokey Tunis which was sold at Sotheby's in New York on December 17, 2009 in lot 51 for $3,500.
