Item Description
This beautifully carved and finished presentation gavel is covered in symbols of the Odd Fellows fraternity. These include the chain with three links (friendship, love and truth), the all-seeing eye of God, an axe, the bow of Rebekah, a heart-in-hand, a snake wrapped around a staff, the scales of justice, a globe, and other imagery. Its decoration includes text that documents its origin and the lodge to which it was given. It reads: “Made by William Nichols of Kas. [Kansas] & presented by Dr. W.H. Trollinger to B.F. Christianson Lodge No. 102, IOOF [Independent Order of the Odd Fellows], Texas”. The date “1888” is carved on the end of the handle.
Condition: Excellent, with only the most minimal wear.
