Item Description
Susana Davis’ 1828 show towel. Includes both standard school child needlework and less-common white-work. Show towels are the Pennsylvania German equivalent of samplers. They served to hone and demonstrate a young girl’s sewing skills. This one, executed on homespun linen, has been stitched-mounted to 100% black cotton twill that has been treated for color-fastness and mounted over a wooden strainer.
