Original Le Corbusier Cite Cabinet for sale
Item ID: 384567
Item Description
The urban housing project, Cité Radieuse was designed by the Bauhaus designer, Le Corbusier and erected in Marseille, France between 1947 to 1951. Corbusier's idea was to create affordable, comfortable and convenient city dwellings. The apartments were furnished partially with his furnishings. This cabinet is from this project and was manufactured by Ateliers Le Corbusier. It measures 58.5 x 41.2 x 21.75 inches and has 4 adjustable shelves. The door handles are original. Structurally it is sound and very stable.
Cabinet History
The apartments in the housing project were converted to condominiums and as some of the residencies were renovated, the cabinets were removed by their owners. The colors of the cabinets differ due to the fact that they were originally installed without color, and as the apartments were painted, the cabinets were also painted to match the apartments. This occurred over the "life span" of the cabinet in each residency.
