Antique Turkish Copper Cauldron for sale
Item ID: 386736
Item Description
Hand-hammered antique copper cauldrons such as this piece were typically used as dye vats. The cauldrons would be placed over an open fire, filled with water, and dyes would be added. Then undyed wool would be steeped in the dyes until the desired color was reached for the rug or kilim to be created.
We salvage such copper cauldrons, and then have them refurbished by copper artisans outside Istanbul. Some we leave with the original charred patina developed over years of use. Others, such as this piece, we have polished back to a shiny finish. But hints of its prior life are still there, around the handles particularly. Perfect for housing wood by the fireplace, or outside use as planters.
