The definitive Erte book! Printed in 1972 in a limited edition of 2,000 of which 500 were leather bound and 1500 were silk. Text by Roland Barthes translated by William Weaver with an exerpt from Erte's memoirs and forward by Sal and Eric Estorick.
The fabulous 79 mounted, coloured plates are tipped-in lithographs and include Erte's number series, alphabet, costume and clothing designs and textile/stage designs. These are truly breathtaking and in perfect condition. Many have rarely been scene.
The blue-gray paper, handmade under the direction of NIno Amoretti at Fabriano in the Pietro Miliani papermill, is amazing to the touch.
This book is in perfect condition with black silk binding with goldleaf and comes with its original slipcase/drop box which has only minor brushing.
In 1997 Christie's London sold copy #2 which had Erte's personal note to the owner for $531
