Born in Bristol, UK in 1974, Bansky is an internationally acclaimed, pseudonymous, England-based graffiti artist, political activist, film director, and painter. His works are easily recognizable with their graphic stenciling, trompe l’oeil style and cheeky social commentary. Using public, urban surfaces such as buildings and abandoned vehicles as canvasses, Banksy ingeniously appropriates marks, stains, and other surface-matter to create his own quirky, controversial images, which are mostly meant to be viewed from moving vehicles. His concept is often anti-war, anti-capitalist, anti-establishment or simple, satirical humor at its best. His subjects range from the elderly, children, and authority figures in uniform to sewer rats, apes, slogans, and cave drawings. His documentary “Exit Through the Gift Shop” was featured in the 2010 Sundance Film Festival and held critical acclaim after winning multiple awards.

Although Banksy leaves his work open for public view and interpretation—vulnerable to the elements and public manipulation—much of his graffiti has been documented in print, books, films, and media, protected by transparent mountings as city attractions and monuments, and even sold in situ at auction, leaving the removal logistics to the winning bidder.

This rare color combination of an image of a girl whose umbrella seems to be raining on her, "Nola", was originally stenciled by Bansky in New Orleans as a poignant image in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina. This stencil has been famously repeated on an abandoned building in San Telmo, Buenos Aires, Argentina and printed on an array of artistic and commercial paraphernalia.
