Item Description
An original antique photograph of the Palü Glacier in Graubunden Switzerland. The photograph is the work of the brothers Bruno (1867-1927) and Arthur (1876-1915) Wehrli. They established their photo atelier in the 1890s and were known artistically as the Gebrüder Wehrli.
The photograph is circa 1900/1910, measures 6.5 x 8.7 inches and is an original gelatin silver print. It is in very good condition.
About the artists: The Gebruder Wehrli are considered to be the pioneers of Swiss Alpine photography. Known for very sharp black/white photographers and their eye for detail, their work is considered to be the root of the modern mountain landscape photography genre in Switzerland. Also, Gebruder Wehrli photographs were quite popular during the 1890s & early 20th century on tourist post cards.
The brothers were true sons of the mountains and were known to schlep their equipment up the most challenging climbs to capture the perfect picture, the perfect moment. There are several books published about their works and are included in the collection of several museums.
