Norman Parkinson was a dazzling and innovative British fashion and portrait photographer until his death in 1990. He is known for his legendary seven-decade career photographing for top magazines including the British edition of “Harper’s Bazaar”, “Vogue”, “Queen” and “Town & Country”. He famously introduced high fashion shoots in outdoor, natural settings to the fashion print world. Many of his photographs depict his wife, Wenda Rogerson and other notable models of the time such as Jerry Hall, Barbara Goalen and Raquel Welch. He has been the subject of many retrospectives in prominent institutions including the National Portrait Gallery in London.
This photograph of model Adele Collins was featured on the cover of a 1959 edition of “Vogue”. It was created after one of Dutch, Fauvist painter, Kees van Dongen’s most famous paintings. Parkinson’s coveted photographs graced the covers of countless magazines throughout the 20th century and his work continues to be collected and sought-after internationally.
