Virgil Cantini (1919–2009) was an artist, sculptor and educator. He studied at Carnegie Institute of Technology then at the University of Pittsburgh. Later, he joined the faculty of University of Pittsburgh. He and his family were life long residents of Pittsburgh.
His figurative style was innovative. In all the drawings, prints and designs seen in this portfolio, one can readily see his draftsmanship and keen eye for the dynamism of the human body.
Receiving national and local recognition for his work in steel and enamel, Cantini made large-scale public sculpture using these materials in unique ways.
