This is a fantastic example of modernist still life, with bright colors and a visually pleasing composition. Tea Sternklar was an incredibly talented American listed artist who really captured the aesthetic feel of the 1960's and 70s. I love the pure black background which is so unusual for still lifes. This painting has a real vintage look and feel and would be beautiful in a kitchen area or breakfast nook. It would even flatter the mid-century - vintage dining room. Truly a decorative gem!
Tea Weintraub Sternklar (1905 - 1997)
She was born in Stryi, Poland. Before retiring in 1977, she was a bookkeeper for an art supply distributor in New York City, where she worked for 15 years. She was also a painter whose work was exhibited in Greenwich Village and the White House.
Mother of Avraham Sternklar, Pianist, Composer, Educator, whose compositions are published, recorded and performed by soloists and ensembles on an international level in such remote places as Japan and Peru. One of his works entitled, A PROMISE FULFILLED is based on paintings by his mother.
Mr. Sternklar often performs this work while exhibiting the paintings and discussing the magnificent scenes they represent. In 2009, a performance was held outdoor at Heckscher Park in Huntington, New York, during which a modern dance company danced to a set of pieces as the paintings were displayed on a giant screen.
She died at the age of 92 on Wednesday, April 30, 1997 (1905-1997)
