c1865-1914
Set of five, antique screw style posts, c. 1865-1914. These were used by the Calvary while on patrol to make a temporary corral for their horses. They were screwed into the ground, then ropes strung through the upper loops, allowing them to make any size corral needed and quickly. It measures 57 inches long with the screw portion about 14 inches of it. Original rust and dust and pitting after being in the weather for a hundred years or more.
Later during WWI, it has been documented that these were used on the beaches, placed at an angle, when tanks rolled in, these would get stuck in the tracks and usually throw the tracks off and stopping them from advancing. They also were used to fence around the fighting bases and camps. These could be screwed into the ground quietly and not attract enemy attention.
