Description

This bronze group sculpture of infant and duck by Henry Dasson (1825-1896)  is signed and dated 1882.  It comes from the estate of the noted New York antique dealer, Rochelle Sepenuk who passed away in December of 2006.  This bronze with original marble pedestal with ormolu bronze mounts was offered for sale in lot 56 of the Sotheby's auction of the Property from the Estate of Rochelle Sepenuk, held in New York on October 21, 2008, and had an estimate of $20,000-$30,000. A contemporary of Paul Sormani and Francois Linke, Dasson is recognized as one of most important French ébénistes and bronziers of the last quarter of the nineteenth century.
He participated in the Paris Exposition Universelle of 1878, was made Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur in 1883, and won the Grand Prix Artistique at the Paris Exposition Universelle of 1889.
