This collection of six, stackable Gilson Company brass soil sifters hails from a university agonomy department and was used for the grading and classifying of soil samples for research purposes. The soil sample was sifted through this series of sieves with progressively finer screens. Two of these sifters have sceeens of .187 inches, two of .0059 inches, two of .0029 inches. The brass has a mirror-like finish and makes an attractive container for table centerpiece. The circular shape of polished brass contrasted with the textured inner screening make an intriquing wall display. For the gardener, they function beautifully as they were intended, sifiting soil, and can be used in the winter for bulb storage due to the air circulation through the screens and their one inch elevation within the sifter.
