This oil on canvas depicting a large clipper ship on the high seas was painted by Reginald Daniel Sherrin (1868-1940). Stretcher measures 24 by 36 inches. There is some craquelure, consistent with age. The stretcher resides in a period frame measuring 29.5 by 42.25 by 2 inches. Signed "D SHERRIN" in the lower right corner. This painting likely dates from early in Sherrin's carrier when he was painting along the coast of Suffolk and Norfolk, prior to concentrating on landscape subjects. Canvas was professionally cleaned and relined in January of 2010.
