19th century Carved Gilt & Lacquered side cabinet. Made from Camphor wood the front frame, doors, and drawer plates are all carved and Gilded. The chest has the sides painted with Cardinals in flowers, the top has a an image of one of the eight treasures (Canopy fan) . The carving is mostly of Lotus flowers and buds, the door panels have FU Bats carved into all four corners on each door panel. The FU Bat is emblematic of happiness, blessings, & longevity. A cabinet for the person who has every thing. Because this cabinets has a little bit of every thing.
From the South of China Zhejiang circa 1890, the piece falls into the Art Nouveau period and in style as well.
