This pair of nineteenth century, triangular shaped marble bookends feature polychrome painted decorations including dolphins, eagle and scrolls, above a marble scallop shell mounted with matching coats of arms in bronze. There are minor marks, chips and scratches to the surfaces consistent with age. The coat of arms features a crowned, bicephalic eagle, sabor and globe (with Maltese cross), similar to those of the Russian monarchy, and Hapsburg and Holy Roman Empires.
