19th century document box with gilt painted stroy board, leather wraped wooden box painted with gilt and pigments, circa 1890, Shanxi China.  A wondeful example of Chinoisiere.  This box has exquisite story board  lacquer artwork and the flaming rusty  worn leather interior are sublime.  Great collection piece or just for display, this box is also usable.
